WHERE DOES CACAO COME FROM?

Aztec Legend says that the feathered god of wind Quetzalcóatl brought man CACAO from the kingdom of heaven. The Greek name Theobroma cacao, translated "food of the gods" is very apt. The Aztec leaders are said to have sipped the sacred beverage every day. In the form of a hot and bitter drink.

There are so many different varieties of CACAO. You can have cacao from one valley and it can have a totally different effect and taste and quality than the next spot. Cacao Trees are delicate and like to grow in symbiosis with other plants. In order to be “ceremonial grade” it wants to be organic, fair trade with only minute processing, like slow roasting and hand processing the paste.. No pesticides are being used, no sugar or any other substances added. People in all lines of processing should be treated with absolute fairness and respect. What you receive is a high vibe CACAO, the pure, ground bean with all cocoa butter and fats still in there. It is very potent, filled with an amazing array of nutrients and therefore truly is a superfood.

I had brilliant CACAO from Guatemala, Belize, Trinidad, Peru, Bolivia, Bali, Ecuador, Mexico and then different varieties from each country. Each one has a different taste, character and effect.

I HAVE NEVER HAD CACAO. IS IT SAFE FOR ME?

Because we see Chocolate everywhere it is easy to forget that ceremonial CACAO is a powerful medicine. It has no psychedelic effects, but the activation of the heart center, the increase of circulation and the effects on soul and spirit are not to be underestimated.

Ceremonial doses of CACAO are not recommended for somebody who is taking antidepressants (CACAO contains MAO inhibitors), has a serious heart condition, has very high blood pressure or suffers epilepsy. Please speak to your doctor if you consider taking ceremonial doses of CACAO in any of these cases.

Raw CACAO contains Histamine. When you are pregnant or breastfeeding you should take smaller amounts. Dogs and animals should not be given raw chocolate, as they lack the enzyme to metabolize theobromine (which can be fatal).
